Dr. Ch. Gonsberg

Interviews with users of Morita products

The married couple, Laura and Christopher Gonsberg, opened up two dental practices under one name in April 2018.
Christopher Gonsberg has always been able to rely on Morita.

Why did you become a dentist?

Besides the craftsmanship aspect, it was important to me for my work to make a positive difference in people's lives. Each treatment and patient is different, and there are new challenges in store for you every day. For me, there is always a change of pace.

What do you do when you are not in the practice?

In my spare time, I try to catch up on all the things I have far too little time for at work: Sports, exercise, nature and friends. I prefer activities that combine all different aspects. For instance, I like mountain biking, walking the dogs, playing golf and if the weather doesn't hold up, I just go for a round at the gym. Of course, my wife Laura and I are currently exploring Berlin. We moved to the capital city quite recently and opened up two practices in April 2018. Naturally, there are some activities we haven't had time for, such as traveling. But that will change.

What was your most interesting experience in the practice/with a patient?

There hasn't really been any one experience. I’m always excited when patients show up at the practice in a cheerful mood. For many people, a trip to the dentist is always associated with fear and pain. When you have a patient lean back and relax, you realize you're probably doing a good job. That reflects tremendous appreciation for my team, my practice and for me. In a strong community, people always pitch in and help one another. Patients also notice that.

What has been your greatest learning experience?

There is a time for everything, and things happen when they are supposed to. But when the time does arrive, you also need to take charge and get the job done. And above all, you have to be bold.

What are your current challenges as a dentist?

As I mentioned earlier, we are in the middle of starting up a new practice. More precisely, two practices. And getting everything organized is definitely a challenge. Remodeling activities, patient care, not totally neglecting our private lives – in that traditional work-life balance metaphor, making sure the scales do not tip too far to one side. And the one I am referring to is surely obvious.

How can you strike a balance between professional and private life?

Honestly, it is practically impossible during the week. At least for now. That's why private life currently takes place only on weekends. Of course, when you come home from the practice, you try to tune out and not talk about work the whole time. The current situation is in fact an exception. Laura and I need to strike a healthy balance between career and free time. And because we don't sit together all day long due to work, we also look forward to some time together after work.

Is the role of a woman dentist different from that of a man?

Not in my view. Of course, there are patients who prefer to be treated by a man. Likewise, there are enough patients who will only place their trust in the hands of a female dentist. Good chemistry is vital. Of course, it always depends on how you present yourself and whether the patient is able and willing to trust you. With children, however, it is often easier for female dentists.

How did you come across Morita and how was your first encounter like?

Mainly word-of-mouth and experiences of dentists. But also through advertising and especially the IDS trade fair. A friend’s mother was employed by Morita. During our studies, Laura and I worked for Morita at the IDS - so we became more familiar with the company. Morita and the treatment units simply have a good reputation.

What does Morita mean to you?

Quality and design. There are so many people are talking about the endodontic systems, turbines and contra-angles and how high-performance they are. That's what we already noticed back then at the exhibition stand. People were so enthusiastic and proud to use the devices and never wanted to do without them in their practice. As a dentist, you’re looking forward each day anew to be able to offer your patients a high-class treatment with Morita.

What would you like to see coming from Morita in the future?

Nothing. I couldn't be happier. Up to now I have always received quick support whenever I had any questions. They have never let me down, I know I can simply count on Morita. My only wish is for that same reliability to continue in the future. But I have no doubts about it.
